On-Farm Positions (2025 Season)
Field Crew
Full-time and Part time positions available
Pay: $18/hr+ DOE (& abundant free vegetables!). Workdays include 1 hr unpaid lunch break
Start/End: April-October
Meltwater Farm is hiring 1 full-time and 1-2 part time field crew members starting in April and ending in October, with the possibility of continuing into the winter.
We are looking for good people who are careful, considerate, time-sensitive, and easily accept instruction and feedback. Responsibilities will be varied and will include cultivation, tunnel crop maintenance, transplanting, starting seeds, setting irrigation, harvest, post-harvest washing and packing. Crew members will be expected to work independently as well as part of our small team. We work in almost all conditions (sun, rain, snow, wildfire smoke depending on the aqi and with masks) and always keep everyone’s health and safety as a first priority. The work we do is often prolonged and repetitive, and the ability to enjoy and be motivated to work in this way is a must. We love what we do and value the opportunity to share our knowledge and experience with others.
These positions could be combined with our Farmers Market Assistant position.
Must:
Demonstrated capacity for sustained manual labor.
Lift 50lbs regularly.
Value organic food production.
Bonus:
Prior vegetable farming experience.
Intentions to build a farming career.
Interest in regenerative organic farming.
Work/Share Volunteers
Hours: 2-4 hours/week, Schedule based on availability.
Compensation: Free-choice vegetables (quantity dependent on hours worked).
Start/End: April- November
Meltwater Farm is seeking dedicated volunteers to join us on the farm from April to November, with the possibility of continuing into the winter. Responsibilities will be specialized and based on the farm’s needs and the volunteer’s specific aptitudes and interests.
Must:
Value organic food production.

Farmers Markets Assistants (2025 Season)
Troy Waterfront Farmers Market Assistant
Hours: Saturdays, 7:30am-2:30pm
Pay: $120/day (& free-choice vegetables up to $25/day)
Start/End: April-November
Meltwater Farm is hiring an assistant for the Troy Waterfront Farmers Market starting every Saturday from April to November, with the possibility of continuing into the winter. The assistant will meet the farmers at the market setup location every Saturday morning to help with all aspects of setup and sales, as well as breakdown at the end of the market.
This position could be combined with our Field Crew positions, or with the Schenectady Greenmarket Assistant position.
Must:.
Previous work experience in food service or sales (farm or farm-to-table preferred).
Strong interpersonal, relational and communication skills.
Lift 50lbs regularly.
Value organic food production.
Bonus:
Prior vegetable farming experience.
Interest in regenerative organic farming.
Schenectady Greenmarket Assistant
Hours: Sundays, 8:30-2:30
Pay: $100/day (& free-choice vegetables up to $25/day)
Start/End: April- November

The assistant will meet the farmers at the market setup location every Saturday morning to help with all aspects of setup and sales, as well as breakdown at the end of the market.
